Immediate Past President
Barry Simpson '69 is the immediate past president of the Penn State Alumni Association, having served as 76th president July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2011. Simpson has served on the Alumni Council since 2002, on the Alumni Association Executive Board since 2005, and as the Alumni Association vice president for two years prior to becoming president.
Professionally, Simpson is the executive director of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, a post he has held since 1999. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 29,000-member professional association based in Harrisburg, Pa. Prior to that, Simpson was a partner for 10 years in the Pittsburgh law firm of Ecker, Rome, Simpson and DeAngelis and was with Brennan, Robins & Daley law firm for 16 years prior to that, eight as a partner.
Simpson earned a bachelor's degree in marketing management from Penn State in 1969, then went on to earn his juris doctorate degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1972.
He lives in Harrisburg, Pa., with his wife, Kathryn '69. Their two children, Brad Simpson '03, '06g and Carly Simpson '04, and daughter-in-law, Alison Lipsett Simpson '03, are all Penn State graduates.
