Where I'm From, by Dan Morrell
Eventually, Shriver figures, advances in DNA research could lead to the ability to construct a complete three-dimensional image of a person based only on a tiny sample of DNA. Any strand of hair, flake of skin, or drop of saliva could be transformed into a composite sketch of its owner, complete with hair color, skin color, eye color, and height. Imagine if the police could provide full-color, true-to-life mug shots of suspects just hours after the crime.
Life's a Zoo, by Maureen Gallagher '00 Behrend
You can find Penn Staters in zoos all across the United States . Our grads are feeding lions, performing surgery on elephants, breeding giant pandas, keeping porcupines from procreating, and hauling snakes to schools to teach the next generation of zookeepers. The animals need them, and from the Penn Staters we spoke with, it seems the feeling is mutual.
Mail Room Marvels, by David Pulizzi
During the Great Depression, the federal government, looking for ways to uplift and inspire the citizenry, launched a novel project. Beginning in 1934, the Treasury Department commissioned a series of sculptures and murals, each to be displayed in one of the nation's post offices and each intended to reflect the heritage of the town in which it stood. Nearly 1,100 pieces were installed in post offices throughout the United States , with Pennsylvania receiving 94 of the commissions, second only to New York .
