High Tide in Pennsylvania: Civil War Comes to Gettysburg

Our tour is heading back to Gettysburg, but this time with a completely different perspective, new activities, and fresh leadership. Join us for three full days of instruction in the classroom and on the battlefield of the Civil War's bloodiest clash of arms, with more than 51,000 casualties. Recent terrain restoration efforts have made it possible to see the battlefield the way Generals Lee and Meade saw it during the intense fighting.

Penn State Battlefield Study Tours, sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association, offer a relaxed atmosphere and a broad array of Civil War topics. Recent tours have crisscrossed the United States, from Shiloh to Vicksburg to Williamsburg. The tours have ventured into every crevice of the Civil War, through towns, fields, forests, and swamps, and have reached hundreds of adults interested in continuing their education and experiencing first-hand the landscape of the Civil War.

The 20th annual Penn State Battlefield Study Tour will be led by Terrence J. Winschel ‘77, Vicksburg Military Park historian, author, and Penn State alumnus; and Parker Hills, retired brigadier general, Battle Focus seminar leader, and tour leader.
